Arsenic and Old Lace
by Joseph Kesserling
Arsenic and Old Lace is a fast-paced, darkly comical evening with the Brewster family.
Mortimer Brewster, a drama critic for a prominent New York newspaper, has just become engaged and visits the sweet spinster aunts, that raised him since he was a boy, to announce the engagement. There we meet his interesting family --- the brother believes that himself to be Teddy Roosevelt, the homicidal brother, Jonathan. (who strangely resembles Boris Karloff) and his dear sweet aunts, Abby and Martha (who have a little secret regarding the many lonely old men that have traveled through). Mortimer does his to hold it together as he deals with murder and mayhem...and the police.
